He arrived, a month early, but he is perfect. My third pregnancy was a challenge in the last few weeks. I had never considered hospital plans, as my previous two experiences giving birth were brief hospital stays and completely uncomplicated. You never know what can change overnight when you are pregnant! We got back from vacation and my doctor told me to head to emergency right away. I was quite surprised when I was diagnosed with pre-eclampsia and told I would be put on hospital bed-rest. At the time I didn’t know how long I would be staying so I hadn’t even packed an overnight bag. I thought I would just be there for some tests and allowed to go home. As the days in hospital wore on I realized it may have been nice to have some of the little extras that I never had in hospital before. I never bothered with a private room, a television or a telephone as I considered these things luxuries for a short stay in hospital. In the future I would consider different hospital plans for our insurance.
